Nattie & Hazel Nut's Adventures

Rhode Tripping to Rhode Island

This weekend we set off to the fair state of Rhode Island for some fun in the sun!

Sights, Sounds, & Sun:

Living in New England has brought several opportunities to explore the area around us. Now living closer to the City we’ve branched out along the coastline.

I’ve wanted to explore Rhode Island since last year. With my Dad coming to town we opted to make a road trip to the Rhode Island coast. He wanted to see the Cliff Walk in Newport, RI. Really he wanted to see the Vanderbilt Mansion.

Part of the views along the Cliff Walk

The view outward over the water was beautiful. The mansions are giant, but so not my style. I find peace looking out over the ocean. Something I bet the owners of the different mansions thought about when they built their mansions with windows facing the cliffs.

Let’s Eat!

Our next stop after our walk – Which Hazel loved and yet couldn’t make the whole walk – was lunch. I routinely use my Gluten Free Near Me app to help me find safe meal spots. While the food was good, the menu definitely wasn’t gluten free. Fail on the information from the app. But alas…. that seems to happen a fair amount of times lately.

Tasting our Way through America:

Next up we headed to Newport Vineyards for some much needed wine tasting.

Dad & I tasting grapes

Newport Vineyard has impression grounds, fabulous views, and okay wine. While all wine tasting in New England makes me homesick this winery’s whites were worth the tasting. So far though, no New England winery has quite the taste of reds like Edna Valley can bring out. And most of the wineries out this way buy grapes from the west coast to make some of their labels. Fun Fact.

As this James family likes to do, we wine taste… wherever in the world we may go. Being California natives we have hopped onto the bandwagon of wine tasting over the last several years. I was a slow starter at it, but I’ve quickly become an avid wine tasting participant!

And while nothing will dampen my love for my local vineyards back home, I can go into each winery with the peaked interest of what wine tastes like in a different neck of the woods. Quite literally in this region as most vineyards are nestled within the forests that roam throughout the Northeast.

In all it was a good weekend of exploring.

Happy Travels!
