Barbados Beach Days

Life in the Caribbean can be falsely amazing. Well then again from the outside do we really know what anyone’s life it truly like? What makes it great, or what makes it hard? No.

During my time in Grenada I needed out several times. It wasn’t so much life was hard… just drowning. So one year when I couldn’t take it anymore and researched getting out of GND, my mom put her foot down and said I couldn’t come home. So my best friend and I went to Barbados. What I truly needed was OFF the island. And although I would have never thought that going to yet another island was the way to stop the internal combustion.. it worked. It was JUST the ticket for me.

So for less than the price of a ticket home I flew to Barbados and spent a long weekend at an all inclusive resort. My first ever experience of all inclusive. I officially am hooked. It was AMAZING.

I was definitely skeptical going into it… I mean we flew on – what was for me – the smallest plane alive. (I’ve since flown on much smaller planes). I feared for my life… until we touched down. And then a wave a calm came over me. I was at peace for the first time all year. The paradise island was beautiful in it’s rugged and poverty riddled land.

The hotel was 1 of 4 on the island at that time. Our hotel reservation allowed us to hop from the different resorts to experience the entire resort life. We were able to jump on the shuttle to go to each resort as we wished. So long as we stayed the night at our resort.

Our plans for the weekend included: R&R, sunshine time, Cricket, and some studying. We were, after all, in vet school. Professors don’t take kindly to missed exams. Plus my grades would have suffered.

But for the time being we were in paradise. I mean look at that (^) view!

Poolside or beachside in paradise is a very relaxing place to be. The world almost seems to be at bay when you have found a place that relaxes your soul. And during this trip, on this island, in this resort… I found a way to relax.

We got to enjoy the sun, the clear blue water, and sea life. One of the resorts we hopped over to had snorkel gear that allowed us to snorkel amongst the corral… I may have not done the best job… Because well… I scraped my hips a few times. But I got to swim with a TURTLE!

It was an amazing experience that I won’t forget anytime soon!

If you are looking for a low key Caribbean holiday… by all means don’t count Grenada, or Barbados out. While you wont find the extras of holidays in larger countries… you just might find yourself amongst the sunsets, beach waves, and sea life.
