Snow in STOWE!
This Sunday Adventure is brought to you by Stowe, VT. And SNOW. We planned a weekend away, in the mountains of Vermont, in the snow of New England, and in the SUNSHINE of a perfect day. Our girls weekend Started off with an easy night… and lots of W.I.N.E.
Our cute little cabin was on the outskirts of Stowe. It was perfect for our needs. Three bedrooms (we didn’t end up needing all 3), privacy, and snow. They also allowed Hazel to join in on the girls weekend fun. The less fun aspect was that EVERYONE liked to have off leashed dogs in the neighborhood… dogs that did NOT have boundaries, and were not fully obedient to voice commands. I’m not a fan of off leashing… especially if your dog isn’t going to leave MY dog alone. I also didn’t deal with the metal roof and heating elements well. I could NOT sleep whenever the clicking/knocking started. 🙄
Day ONE:
We spent part of the day adventuring up to Stowe. But once there we headed into town for some food, wine, and sightseeing. I definitely didn’t “socialize” like my friend was hoping… but I went for soul soothing weekend away in the snow. My goals were attained. My friend’s goal of finding me someone to flirt with was not. Crisis adverted.
However we did successful find a cute wine bar where I was able to commandeer this adorable wine bottle. It holds 750ml of wine… or I suppose whatever you chose to put inside this large flask. 🥰
Day TWO:
Sunday we attempted snowshoeing. I use the term “attempted” because well… I failed. Miserably. I couldn’t get my poles to work right. I kept tripping over either my feet or my dog. The final straw of the day was when I tried to back up and landed flat out on my arse. I mean snow everywhere, feet tangled in the snowshoes and snow, and my camera covered. I was “done” with these stupid shoes.
So Hazel Nut and I headed back to the car to dump the load, grab more poop bags (hello poor planning I didn’t check my poop bag stash prior to leaving for Stowe! WHOOPS). It took a while but we catch up with our friend. Along the way we passed many sights to enjoy… and dogs we didn’t enjoy passing. Hazel was SO STIMULATED she forgot her training. 🤦🏻♀️ Cue horribly embarrassed owner and super reactive dog. Fun times.
But there were some really great views to practice my photography skills.
The trail was beautiful. But I kept slipping in the snow. We closed my activity rings though… yeah! And worked up an appetite.
We tried out the Kaufeehouse at Trapp Family Lodge. It was… okay. Overpriced coffee that was subpar, they messed up my order and had to remake it (gluten free), and it was understaffed for a very business lunch hour. The sandwich wasn’t bad… just not that’s exciting.
The bakery we tried next was adorable and tasty. The gluten free items weren’t all Nattie safe so I opted for the brownie. I’ve made better. But their toffee. FULL STOP A-MAZING. Stowe Bee Bakery… you have won this GF gal over. YUM. YUM. YUM.
My favorite coffee shop of the trip was Black Cap Coffee & Beer. They make this incredible Nutella latte that is delish! I even made sure to get my last cup of joe at this coffee shop prior to heading back home in the snowstorm.
Day THREE:
I started the day cleaning up the cabin and then packing up the house. The trek home was much longer than I was hoping due to the snow squalls, snow trucks, and just generalized dumb people on the road. We made it home safely despite all of that.
All in all it was a great weekend with my New England friend. I’m grateful for her and the fun we were able to have together. Here’s to new beginnings!
